Get Involved – Volunteer Event - Summary
22 April 2025, by Suzanne Watson
On Friday 28 March we held the very first Get Involved – Volunteer Fair.
We had 25 different organisations attending the event to showcase the volunteer opportunities available with them. Many Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise organisations in North Lincolnshire rely on volunteers to support the wonderful work they do in the community.
Our event had volunteers come through the door looking for opportunities to take part in. Some attended as they were retired and wanted to fill their time, whilst others were looking for volunteer opportunities to pick up skills and experience to enable them to look and apply for employment.
Current volunteers were also invited to come along to the event to get hold of their own badge to celebrate volunteering in North Lincolnshire. These badges can be worn by anyone who volunteers within our local community. Organisations who are registered on our volunteer system can get hold of these badges for their volunteers, or you can email us directly to arrange collecting one for yourself.
If you missed out on visiting us during the day, you can access all the volunteer opportunities by visiting our Volunteer pages.
From there you can browse all the opportunities we have available. You can set up an account and apply through the system, save your favourite opportunities to look at later and record volunteer roles and hours to add to job applications. There are always new opportunities being added, so keep checking back for new roles you might be interested in.
You can also just browse the opportunities without the need for creating an account, looking through the opportunities and contacting the organisations directly.
There are opportunities from a varied list of organisations and the roles include train drivers, dog rescue supporters, volunteer drivers, arts group leaders and family support volunteers.
Volunteering has many benefits on peoples mental and physical health, it can boost your social skills by giving you a team to volunteer with, giving you a reason to get up and out the house as well as giving you an opportunity to support charities or organisations in your local community and support those in need of the services offered.
So whether have time on your hands and want to share your skills and experience with a group or organisation who needs your help or you need to learn new skills and gain social skills, volunteering could be for you.
