Carers Active April – Week 2

Carers Active April, launched by Carers UK, aims to support unpaid carers in the UK to get active.
Getting outside for a few minutes per day can transform your mood and wellbeing. Thanks to the longer days in spring and summer, there is more opportunity to head outside for a quick walk, jog or even a workout in your garden if you have the space!
For inspiration, check out our ideas for this week’s Carers Active April theme Embracing the Outdoors:
- There are opportunities for young carers to join community sessions in the area to help you keep fit and make new friends – for information please email youngcarers@northlincs.gov.uk
- To celebrate Carers Active April, join a free walking events in North Lincolnshire this Friday 11 April!
- North Lincolnshire Community Wellbeing team is running two guided walks in Brigg and Scunthorpe. Join Brigg Community Stroll, meeting at The Angel, Brigg, at 10.30am (new participants meet 10.15am), or take part in the Carers Walk and Nature Bingo, meeting at The Pods, Ashby Road, Scunthorpe, at 1pm.
- Please note the walks are open to all and are dementia friendly. Please share with a Carer you know or bring them along.
- Walking North Lincolnshire run several guided health walks and walking groups you can join if you are able to – please visit LiveWell for information. Come along to their led walk at Normanby Hall Country Park this Friday 11 April from 10.30am and choose routes of one, two or three miles.
- Spend time outdoors in your local park. If you feel up to it, see if you can complete the Park Fit circuit in Central Park or Baysgarth Park! The circuits include a range of equipment designed to give you a good workout and get your heart pumping – plus they can be done anytime at no cost!
- If you are a carer aged 40+, or under 40 with a family history of hypertension, and would like a free blood pressure check and free in body scan, visit The Pods, Ashby Road, Scunthorpe on Tuesday 8 April 10am – 6pm.
- Family members and friends welcome too! Book your place by emailing referral@northlincs.gov.uk. Walk ins are welcome but may be subject to availability.
