Carers' Active April – Week 1

This Carers Active April there is lots going on in North Lincolnshire to support carers to get more active!

Carers Active April, launched by Carers UK, aims to support unpaid carers in the UK to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

The theme for Carers Active April Week 1 is Active Living with a Health Condition, and there are plenty of ways carers living with a health condition can get active, either at home or in their community:

  1. Join the North Lincolnshire Active Communities Long Term Health Conditions programme which launches Tuesday 1 April - an eight-week low impact activity programme tailored to your needs with support from the team running the sessions.
  2. Register for the NLActive exercise referral programme to join fun, effective classes suitable for a people living with a range of conditions. Try the Good Boost aqua based exercise programme, have a go at seated circuits, join the Active Lincs Parkinsons sessions plus more! Email referral@northlincs.gov.uk for availability.
  3. Put on your walking shoes and join a short walk in the fresh air – check out the guided walks ran by North Lincolnshire Public Health listed on LiveWell!
  4. Carers with young children in the Barton area can meet like-minded parents, grandparents and carers this Thursday 3 April at the free weekly Pram and Pushchair Walk, starting at Baysgarth Leisure Centre at 1pm. Enjoy a stroll around the park followed by BookChatter in the Leisure Centre studio for little ones to explore books.
  5. Join Brigg Community Stroll on Friday 4 April hosted by North Lincolnshire Community Wellbeing Team. The group meet at The Angel car park in Brigg at 10.30am for a short walk down the bank of the river Ancholme. New members are advised to meet slightly before at 10.15am.
  6. If you live with a health condition making it difficult to get outdoors, North Lincolnshire Active Communities have released a series of gentle exercise programmes which you can follow at home NL Active introduction.
  7. Alternatively, join an NLActive livestreamed group fitness from home – see here for information: NL Active group fitness classes - North Lincolnshire Council
  8. Young carers do not miss out as the North Lincolnshire Young Carers Team offer vouchers for young carers to access swimming and gym facilities. For more information please email familycarerteam@northlincs.gov.uk
  9. Visit www.carerssupportcentre.com to find out more about Tai Chi sessions for Carers, and fitness sessions for those living with Dementia and their Carers in the area.
